PDAS 2026 — Energising Indias Defence Industry: Tamil Nadu and the Peninsula as the Engine of Growth

Tamil Nadu, and the Indian Peninsula — where military operational need, industrial innovation, and governmental commitment converge to build Indias sovereign, self-reliant, and globally competitive defence ecosystem.

In the evolving geopolitical landscape of the twenty-first century, technological capability and industrial strength have become central pillars of national power. Nations that control advanced technologies, manufacturing ecosystems, and secure supply chains possess a decisive strategic advantage.

For India, strengthening indigenous defence capabilities has therefore become a national priority. Under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Government of India has embarked on an ambitious transformation of the defence sector aimed at reducing import dependence and building a globally competitive defence manufacturing ecosystem.

This transformation is not merely about producing defence equipment domestically. It requires the creation of a complex and integrated ecosystem involving research institutions, manufacturing industries, supply chains, innovators, investors, and skilled human capital.

Within this emerging national framework, Tamil Nadu and the broader Indian Peninsula region possess unique advantages that position them to play a pivotal role in India’s defence industrial future.

PDAS 2026 is the platform built to make that happen.

These capabilities provide the foundation for a strong defence manufacturing base.

Tamil Nadu also hosts a large network of highly capable MSMEs and engineering enterprises, many of which already supply components to global industries. With appropriate integration into defence supply chains, these companies can become key contributors to India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.

At the same time, the region is witnessing the rapid emergence of technology startups and research-driven innovation, particularly in areas such as:

These technologies are increasingly shaping the future of warfare.

Recognising the region’s potential, the Government of India established the Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor, linking manufacturing clusters in Chennai, Hosur, Salem, Coimbatore, and Tiruchirappalli. The corridor aims to integrate the region’s industrial strengths into the national defence manufacturing architecture.

However, building a robust defence industrial ecosystem requires more than infrastructure and policy support. It requires platforms that bring together the entire ecosystem—policymakers, armed forces, industry leaders, innovators, researchers, and investors—to exchange ideas, identify opportunities, and build partnerships.

The Peninsula Defence and Aerospace Summit (PDAS) has been conceived to serve precisely this purpose.

Anchored in Chennai, PDAS is designed as a national platform to accelerate the growth of the defence and aerospace ecosystem across Tamil Nadu and the Indian Peninsula, while connecting it to the broader national and global defence landscape.

Unlike traditional defence exhibitions that focus primarily on showcasing major platforms, PDAS emphasises the industrial and technological ecosystem that enables defence capabilities to emerge.

PDAS 2026 brings together:

By enabling structured engagement between these stakeholders, PDAS aims to strengthen the pathways that connect innovation, manufacturing, and operational capability.

A central theme of the Summit is the importance of technology sovereignty. In an era of strategic competition, the ability to design, develop, and manufacture critical technologies domestically is essential for national security.

PDAS will therefore promote dialogue on the long-term development of India’s defence industrial ecosystem, focusing on issues such as:

Equally important is the need to foster public awareness and informed understanding of defence industrialisation. The development of a strong defence sector requires the participation of engineers, entrepreneurs, investors, and research institutions. PDAS seeks to contribute to this broader national awareness by highlighting the challenges and opportunities associated with defence technology development.

By bringing together the key actors of the defence ecosystem in Chennai, the Peninsula Defence and Aerospace Summit seeks to catalyse a new phase in the development of the defence manufacturing landscape of Tamil Nadu and the Peninsula region.

In doing so, PDAS aims to contribute meaningfully to India’s broader national goal of building a self-reliant, technologically advanced, and globally competitive defence industrial base.

Indias defence industrial future will be built by those who commit to it today. PDAS 2026 is where that commitment is made — and where it begins to deliver.
